In the days when all clothes were hand tailored, this room, the bedroom of two of the house maids, was used as a sewingroom. The best seamstress in these parts would be hired, and would "move into" the Inn for a few weeks till the new clothes were finished.
When we were preparing this room for redecorating, we found it had an interesting history. Peeling away a few layers of old wallpaper, we discovered children's sums written all over the plaster. After more research, we learned that this room had been used as a schoolroom for the area children. To our delight, we discovered that before, during and after the War for State's Rights, my ancestors defied the law, and provided lessons to whies and blacks alike, with a policy of turning no one away.
